Tryhackme - Holo - My Experience
Holo is a Tryhackme network that consists of multiple machines in a network. The machine consists of both Windows and Linux machines. This blog post is not a write-up but some of my thoughts from doing it.
Access
To access the network you need to have a subscription to Tryhackme, and there is a separate configuration file to download and use with OpenVPN. I did the network during 3 days, started on a Saturday and did maybe half of it, and use some hours on two evenings after work in the following week to finish the network.
Flags
There was a total of 8 flags to find. It was the normal user and root flags like most other rooms have. They were all easy to find as long as you got access.
Lesson learned for me
My main lesson learned is that I need to practice using C2 frameworks more. I did this network without using a C2 framework. It wasn’t a bad experience, but I can see the benefits that I get if it was a larger network.
I think I will revisit this room at a later time (when I have forgotten the room), and try to do the room without reading the tasks. I will try to make a proper penetration test of the network and write a write-up of it.
Overall experience
This is a great room. You learn a lot from it and you experience using a lot of different tools.
